Practice Mode

Learn the moves at your own pace with the Warm Up practice mode.

Practice Mode

Just Dance includes a "Practice Mode" (also called "Warm Up" in some games) that serves as a practice mode. Unlike standard play, this mode allows players to practice the choreography of a selected song without the pressure of scoring. It is designed to help players learn the dance routines in a safe context, building a "vocabulary" of moves they can practice before attempting a full performance.

Lore & Background

The Warm Up mode was created as part of Just Dance's design philosophy to help players overcome their inhibitions and anxiety towards dance. Ubisoft producer Florian Granger noted that the game was intended to help players build a "vocabulary" of moves they can practice in a "safe context", with the game itself being the focal point of attention rather than themselves. This mode allows players to get comfortable with the choreography before facing the full game's scoring system.

In Their Own Story

In the Warm Up mode, players can select a song and practice the on-screen dancer's choreographed routine without the pressure of earning points. The mode strips away the scoring judgments—"X", "OK", and "Great"—that appear in standard play, allowing players to focus purely on mimicking the dancer's motions. This gives players the chance to learn the sequence of moves, including the shake moves where the shake meter appears, without worrying about their accuracy ranking.

Reader's Guide

To access the Warm Up mode, players select it from the game's menu alongside the other modes: standard play, "Strike a Pose" mode, and "Last One Standing" mode. In Warm Up, players choose a song and either a short or full version of it. They then follow the on-screen dancer and the scrolling pictograms/silhouettes representing specific poses, holding a Wii Remote in their right hand. Unlike standard play, there are no scoring targets (10,000 points for Standard or 15,000 points for Master) to achieve. The mode is purely for practice, allowing players to repeat sections until they feel comfortable with the choreography. Once mastered, players can exit and attempt the song at full speed in standard play for a real score.
